WP 251: Speed-building

Course encourages speed development through speedbuilding drill exercises and timed tests.

Course Objectives: When the course is completed you will be able to:

  • perfect keying skills with practice and review in the Cortez Peters Program.
  • increase keying level for graduation requirements.

  • Skills learned will benefit students in jobs requiring key entry.

Teaching Methodology: Encourage students to continually practice keyboarding skills in order to achieve speed and accuracy. Use of Rhythm Development Drills and Regular Speed Drills.

Cortez Peters Championship Keyboarding Drills, Glencoe McGraw-Hill, Third Edition.

Course Policies

Incomplete Policy: Students will not be given an incomplete grade in the course without sound reason and documented evidence as described in the Student Handbook. In any case, for a student to receive an incomplete, he or she must be passing the course.

Instructor Requirements

  • The key to success in this course is PERSISTENCE!!! Therefore, attendance in this class is mandatory. Each class you miss will hinder your achievement of your speed-building goal.

Go into Cortez Peters Program, key in name, password, etc. to log on for the first time (instructor will assist). After warm up exercises, practice Rhythm Development Drills until end of period. Red checkmarks will appear when section is complete.

Daily 5- minute warm up. Go to Rhythm Development Skills and continue to practice these until the end of the period.

Daily warm up, then Rhythm Development Drills

Daily warm up, then Rhythm Development and finish all drills.

Begin Accuracy Studies after daily warm up. All drills are to be completed following instructions on the screen.

Begin regular 5- minute speed drills. Go into KeyPro as GUEST and key your first AND last name, then go into OPEN SCREEN (clock at the bottom of screen) for all timed writings throughout the remainder of the quarter. Clock in top right –hand corner is to be set for 5- minutes for each printed drill. Do not print the 3- minute warm-up. Errors may be corrected as necessary. Please circle errors and write page number on each writing. The first 5 errors do not count against the grade. There is a 10- error limit on each drill. EACH PAGE IS TO BE KEYED ONLY ONE TIME. Please place highest speeds on top and staple on top left corner before turning in.
