CM 101: Professionalism

This course prepares students for the workplace through a wide variety of techniques and strategies and shows them how to continue their upward mobility once on the job. Topics covered include work place ethics, goal setting strategies, priority and stress management related to the workplace, working effectively with a diverse workforce, functioning on a global virtual team, managing conflict and difficult people, and learning to navigate change while in a career.

Student Learning Outcomes

Course Objectives: When the course is completed you will be able to:

  • explain how to deal with major stressors in life.
  • describe the importance of respecting people from diverse backgrounds.
  • identify sources of conflict and assess how well they manage conflict.

General Education Objective(s): When the course is completed you will be able to:

  • understand the importance of civic engagement.

Course Policies
  • Discussions must be submitted during week posted.
  • Activities will be posted periodically throughout the quarter. activities must be completed and submitted during week posted. 
  • Exams will consist of multiple-choice, matching, and/or essay questions. All exams are timed: 30-minute maximum (Final Exam is 40-minute maximum). Exams must be submitted during the week posted.
  • Please contact instructor ASAP concerning missed exams.
  • The Final Exam will be comprehensive (covering all topics).
  • GE Assignment (30 points) Students will write an essay about the importance of civic engagement, one activity they would like to participate in, and additional opportunities for civic engagement in the community. Students will receive detailed information during Week 2. Assignment is due by the end of Week 8.

Total Possible Points 670 points

Grading Scales

A = 90% - 100%                   

B = 80% -  89%         

C = 70% -  79%           

D = 60% -  69%         

F = below  60%   

Student Expectations
  • Please respect yourself, your instructor, and your classmates.
  • Please read the assigned chapters in a timely manner and be prepared to discuss topics found in the textbook.
  • All assignments must be submitted within the required time frame. For example, Week 5 assignments must be submitted during Week 5. Failure to do so will result in an F on the missed assignments.
  • It is your responsibility to ask about missed assignments.
